MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641125864 A) filed by Srm Trp Engineering College on October 22, 2026, for Touchless Iot Control System Using Multi-Layer Gesture Intent Validation.

Inventors include Rooban Raj S; and Vikash A B.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: This invention presents a touchless IoT control system that allows users to operate electronic devices using hand gestures without any physical contact. The system captures real-time video through a camera and processes it using computer vision techniques with OpenCV and MediaPipe to detect hand landmarks and identify gestures based on finger positions. Unlike conventional systems that directly execute detected gestures, this system introduces a multi-layer validation approach to ensure reliability and accuracy. The detected gestures are passed through multiple validation layers including motion rejection, frame stability checking, and hold-time verification to eliminate noise and accidental inputs. An intent confidence mechanism is used to evaluate whether the gesture is a deliberate user action before allowing execution. Once validated, a secure command is transmitted over Wi-Fi to an ESP32 microcontroller, which controls connected devices such as LEDs, relays, or motors. The system operates in real time without relying on cloud processing, making it faster, more secure, and cost-effective. By combining gesture recognition with intent-based validation and secure communication, the proposed system provides a reliable and scalable solution for smart homes, assistive technologies, and contactless automation environments.
