MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511017109 A) filed by Shantanu Singh on February 27, 2025, for Torsion Spring Mechanism With An Oval Pivot.

Inventor includes Shantanu Singh.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a torsion spring assembly comprising a pivot with an oval cross-section, a lever with a knuckle-eye, and a platform to which the pivot is rigidly fused. The pivot consists of a circular semi-cylindrical section and an elliptical semi-cylindrical section, connected along their flat diametral planes, wherein the diameter of the circular semi-cylindrical section coincides with the minor axis of the elliptical semi-cylindrical section, forming a continuous oval cross-section. The knuckle-eye of the lever has an oval hole complementary to the pivots cross-section and is mounted onto the pivot, allowing controlled rotation. When the lever rotates relative to the pivot, the knuckle-eye elastically deforms about the pivot, generating a restorative torque that returns the lever to an equilibrium position. The magnitude of the torque depends on the eccentricity of the elliptical semi-cylindrical section, the thickness of the knuckle-eye walls in the deformable half, and the size of the pivot. The maximum rotation angle is limited by the rigidity of the circular semi-cylindrical portion of the knuckle-eye. The invention enables precise torque control and can be adapted for nonlinear torque responses or multiple stable equilibrium positions by modifying the pivots geometry.
