MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641101256 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on August 21, 2026, for Torque Responsive Gear Shifting Assembly.

Inventors include Abhiram Sharma; Vasu Arya; Saksham Anand; Ayush Rathi; and K. M. Monica.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a torque-responsive gear-shifting assembly (100). The assembly (100) senses pedal torque at a spindle strain beam (104) using a bonded foil strain gauge (106). A signal-conditioning circuit (124) conditions a strain-responsive signal, and an analog threshold circuit (126) compares the conditioned signal with torque thresholds. Upon threshold crossing, an electromechanical impulse actuator (120) drives a comparator lever (108), which moves a cam follower roller (114) against a rotary indexing cam (116) coupled with a freehub body (118). Each impulse advances the rotary indexing cam (116) by one lobe position to produce one gear-index shift. A return spring (110) restores the comparator lever (108), and a damping pad (122) suppresses impact and rebound. The assembly (100) enables pedal-force-responsive gear actuation without tensioned shift cables or continuous firmware-based gear-selection computation
