Abstract: The present invention relates to a topical herbal microemulsion having selective anti-melanoma activity. The microemulsion comprises 1% v/v Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree oil) extract, thyme oil, cremophore, and distilled water in the ratio of 1:5:14. The formulated microemulsion (TTO) exhibits potent and selective cytotoxicity against human melanoma cell lines. The invention also provides a simple, reproducible method for preparing the stable, clear, isotropic herbal microemulsion. The composition offers a promising topical therapeutic option for melanoma with high selectivity and reduced toxicity to normal skin cells.
