MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641109593 A) filed by Prof. Dr. Gowrish S.; and Dr. Vandana Sadananda on September 11, 2026, for Thermoresponsive Liposome-Integrated Hydrogel For Sustained Local Delivery Of Antifungal Agents.

Inventors include Prof. Dr. Gowrish S.; and Dr. Vandana Sadananda.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a thermoresponsive liposome-integrated hydrogel for sustained local delivery of antifungal agents. The invention combines phospholipid-based liposomal drug delivery with a temperature-responsive hydrogel matrix. An antifungal agent such as clotrimazole was incorporated into liposomes comprising phospholipid and optionally cholesterol. The optimized antifungal-loaded liposomes were subsequently incorporated into a thermoresponsive polymeric hydrogel comprising one or more polymers selected from Poloxamer 407, Poloxamer 188, Pluronic-type polymers and other thermoresponsive systems. The developed formulation exhibited nanoscale vesicular size, high drug encapsulation, acceptable physicochemical characteristics and temperature-dependent sol-to-gel transition. Following application, the formulation underwent increased viscosity and gel formation at the target temperature, thereby improving local retention and reducing rapid removal. The formulation provided sustained release of the antifungal agent and demonstrated enhanced antifungal activity and tissue deposition compared with conventional formulations. The invention is useful for localized management of cutaneous, mucosal, wound-associated and other superficial fungal infections requiring prolonged local antifungal exposure.
