Abstract: A thermochromic photovoltaic window system (100) with passive energy management includes a glazing unit (102) having at least one thermochromic layer (208) to undergo a reversible change in optical transmissivity in response to temperature variations, at least one photovoltaic energy-harvesting unit (104) operatively coupled with glazing unit (102) to generate electrical energy from incident solar radiation, a thermal sensing unit (106) to detect at least one temperature parameter associated with glazing unit (102) and/or an ambient environment, an energy management unit (108) operatively coupled to photovoltaic energy-harvesting unit (104) to determine an energy availability condition based on generated electrical energy, and to selectively route electrical energy to one or more electrical loads (110) based on energy availability condition. The thermochromic layer (208) may modulate optical and thermal properties of glazing unit (102) within a transition temperature range, by transitioning between a higher transmissivity state and a lower transmissivity state.
