Abstract: Disclosed is a thermo-regenerative antimicrobial filtration unit for a recirculation flow path of a contrast bath hydrotherapy system. The unit comprises a housing with an inlet connectable to a contrast bath return outlet and an outlet connectable to a pump inlet, a debris pre-filtration stage comprising successively finer micro-mesh layers, and an antimicrobial matrix comprising chitosan-coated porous beads with a thermo-responsive hydrogel disposed between the beads to define inter-bead flow channels. A debris expulsion channel is positioned below the antimicrobial matrix and communicates with a removable debris collection chamber. An enclosed ultraviolet-C irradiation tunnel is disposed downstream of the antimicrobial matrix. During alternating warm-water and cool-water circulation, contraction and expansion of the hydrogel respectively narrow and widen the inter-bead flow channels to retain contaminants and release retained debris toward the debris expulsion channel.
