MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621083664 A) filed by Premchandra Jagannath Lokhande; and Lokhande Jalpa Premchandra on July 08, 2026, for Thermiton: A Multi-Phase Structural Composite System With Positive Buoyancy, integrated Energy Storage, And Refractory Thermal Protection.

Inventor includes Premchandra Jagannath Lokhande.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT THERMITON: AN INTEGRATED PROTECTIVE COMPOSITE MATERIAL SYSTEM, METHOD OF MANUFACTURE THEREOF, AND ARTICLES COMPRISING THE SAME [0127] The invention relates to an integrated protective composite material designated THERMITON, comprising a polymer matrix (UHMWPE/HDPE, 60-75 wt%) infiltrated into a sintered ceramic skeleton (20-35 wt% of ZrO2 3Y-TZP, Al2O3, h-BN, and YSZ), with carbon fibre reinforcement (1-5 wt%) and hollow glass microspheres (2-8 wt%). The composite achieves a density of 0.85-1.05 g/cm3, tensile strength of 800-1,200 MPa, compressive strength of 600-900 MPa, flexural strength of 400-600 MPa, Charpy impact strength of 80-150 kJ/m2, fracture toughness K_IC of 15-25 MPa m^1/2, and water absorption below 0.1% after 1,000 hours in seawater. The invention further encompasses: a skin panel variant for thermal protection systems with functionally graded layer architecture; a high-refractory THERMITON-HR variant with SiC aggregates and Al2O3 fibres for sustained thermal resistance at 1600-1800 degrees C; density-graded monolithic structures with superstructure (0.55-0.70 g/cm3), hull shell (0.94-0.98 g/cm3), and keel (2.0-3.0 g/cm3) regions for unsinkable, self-righting marine vessels; a resistive implant welding method using Ni-Cr wire implants achieving 90-100% joint efficiency; marine hulls and articles comprising the same; and a thermal recycling method achieving 85% material recovery.
