Abstract: ABSTRACT THERMAL VIDEO BASED SYSTEM FOR DETECTING UNSAFE CONSTRUCTION WORKER ACTIONS A method (100) for real-time detection of unsafe construction worker actions from thermal video includes capturing (102) thermal video of construction work zones using thermal imaging cameras capturing worker activity based on heat signatures, dividing (104) the thermal video into sequential image frames, and preprocessing (106) each frame by resizing, normalizing, denoising, and enhancing contrast and brightness. The method (100) includes supplying (108) preprocessed frames to a deep-learning detection engine and extracting multiscale thermal features, detecting and classifying (110) unsafe actions including absence of helmet, absence of safety shoes, mobile phone use, and unsafe posture, and localizing (112) each detected unsafe region with a bounding box and assigning a confidence score. The method (100) includes determining (114) whether the confidence score exceeds a threshold, classifying (116) the situation as unsafe and generating an alert, and logging (118) the incident.
