MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641109303 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on September 11, 2026, for Thermal Diagnostics Optimization System.

Inventors include Sitharthan R; Sanidhya Chand; Pranav Suresh; and Harsh Umredkar.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a system (100) and a method (400) of thermal diagnostics optimization. The system (100) receives infrared thermal images of photovoltaic modules through a thermal image acquisition unit (104) and processes the images using a processor (102-2). The processor (102-2) performs environmental compensation to generate compensated thermal images and supplies the compensated thermal images to a trained convolutional neural network model (CNN) analytical engine (108). The CNN analytical engine (108) analyzes temperature distributions, thermal gradients, and heat patterns to identify thermal anomalies associated with photovoltaic modules. The processor (102-2) evaluates identified thermal anomalies and distinguishes fault-induced thermal anomalies from environmentally induced thermal variations. The system (100) determines fault severity and maintenance priority levels based on validated thermal anomalies, temperature deviation, and estimated energy loss. Further, the system (100) generates diagnostic outputs and predictive maintenance recommendations that improve photovoltaic performance.
