MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521086228 A) filed by Pandit Deendayal Energy University on September 11, 2025, for The Catalytic Pyrolysis Of Used Tea-Waste Biomass For Production Of Bio- Oil, Bio Gas And Bio-Char.

Inventors include Dr. Lakshmana Rao Jeeru; and Dr. Balasubramanian Ragunathan.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: The titled invention discloses the method for the development of one creative and environmentally friendly method of turning organic waste into useful bioproducts is the catalytic pyrolysis of used tea waste biomass. using catalysts to improve the yield and quality of bio-char, bio-gas, and bio-oil through the thermal breakdown of spent tea waste in an oxygen-free environment. To improve the selectivity of the intended products and optimize the reaction conditions, a variety of catalysts were used, including metal oxides and zeolites. Rich in phenolic compounds, the resulting bio-oil can be used as a chemical feedstock or as a renewable energy source. The bio-char is a carbon-rich byproduct that can be used as a soil amendment and for carbon sequestration, while the bio-gas, which is mostly made up of methane and hydrogen, is a clean energy carrier.
