MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611088560 A) filed by K. R. Mangalam University on July 21, 2026, for Textile Material And Method From Banana And Pineapple Waste Fibres Blended With Bamboo Lyocell.

Abstract: A textile material, a yarn and fabric, and a method of production are disclosed. The textile material comprises a blend of banana fibre and pineapple leaf fibre, recovered from agricultural waste and enzymatically softened, with regenerated bamboo lyocell fibre, the agro-waste fibres constituting thirty to fifty percent and the bamboo lyocell fifty to seventy percent by weight, The bamboo lyocell confers softness and flexibility while the agro-waste fibres confer strength and texture, so that the blend has cotton-like comfort with enhanced durability that the fibres do not provide alone, and is biodegradable. The method extracts the agro-waste fibres by decortication, degums them by alkali treatment, softens them enzymatically, prepares bamboo lyocell by closed-loop solvent spinning, blends the fibres in the said proportion, spins the blend into yarn and forms a fabric.
