The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention provides a terrain-adaptive EOG-based intelligent wheelchair system comprising EOG electrodes (102), a signal conditioning unit (103), an embedded microcontroller (104), an EOG command recognition module (105), an IMU sensor (106), wheel/motor feedback (107), terrain sensors (108), and adaptive control modules (111). The EOG command recognition module (105) processes two-channel eye-movement signals to determine user-intended wheelchair commands including forward, reverse, left, right, and stop. The adaptive control module (111) separates user intention from motion control and determines appropriate speed, motor torque, acceleration, deceleration, and braking based on real-time pitch, roll, acceleration, wheel movement, and terrain conditions. Adaptive speed control (112), motor torque control (113), and braking control (115) modify wheelchair operation for uphill, downhill, lateral-inclination, uneven, and unstable conditions. A safety check (110) and safety override (114) provide movement restriction and controlled stopping during unsafe conditions. A safety alert module (119) and buzzer (120) provide condition-specific audible feedback, enabling continuous closed-loop, terrain-aware, and safer wheelchair operation.
