MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641075987 A) filed by Kalasalingam Academy Of Research And Education on June 19, 2026, for Temporary Portable Shelter With Integrated Weight Balancing For Outdoor Street Vendors.

Abstract: The titled invention discloses a collapsible temporary shelter for street vegetable vendors comprising a foldable base plate (1) that spreads on the ground, two insertion poles (3) insertable into pole insert hubs (2) on the base plate, and a foldable ceiling frame (4) mountable on top of the poles via ceiling hubs (5). A waterproof polythene sheet (6) slides into U-shaped channels of the ceiling frame to form an overhead cover, 10 and side curtains attach via a curtain fabric insertion lock (7) to block sideways sunlight and rain. A thin-film solar panel (8) placed over the ceiling charges a rechargeable storage battery (9) placed on the base plate. The vendor sits on a designated vendor sitting place (1 0) on the base plate, where the combined weight of the vendor and the battery acts as ballast to prevent overturning. A hanging LED lamp (12) powered by 15 the battery provides night-time illumination. All components fully collapse and fit inside a rigid carrying case (11) weighing no more than 8-10 kilograms, enabling single-hand portability. The shelter protects both vendor and vegetables from direct sunlight and rain, reduces heat fatigue and produce spoilage, requires no tools for assembly, and provides free solar-powered lighting for extended vending hours.
