Abstract: [0001] The annual global Coffee consumption was estimated at 10 million tons in 2021. Approximately 650 kg of Spent Coffee Grounds are produced for every ton of brewed coffee. The conversion of the organic waste of Spent Coffee Grounds is a global challenge. If not utilized properly, it can cause environmental pollution both as piles of organic waste and greenhouse gas emissions due to anaerobic decomposition. The present invention deals with the process for use of Spent Coffee Grounds as organic fertiliser for agriculture, horticultural and botanical gardens to improve soil and plant quality, increase productivity, and to reduce Carbon Footprint. A layer of Spent Coffee Grounds is applied to agricultural fields, horticultural and botanical gardens as organic fertilizer in the ratio of 1:3 with other Compost or leaves which are used to cover it. 15Kg/ m² of organic fertilizer is applied. N-P-K of Spent Coffee Grounds is 2-0.3-0.6. Acid-loving plants like azaleas, blueberries, and tomatoes benefit from Spent Coffee Grounds which have high N content and are slightly acidic. Spent Coffee Grounds are also beneficial for acidophilic plants, including rhododendrons, roses, and carrots as they provide them with essential nutrients and improve soil quality. Plants which are sensitive to acidity, such as orchids and succulents, do not favour Spent Coffee Grounds with a slightly acidic pH level ranging from 6.0 to 6.5. Spent Coffee Grounds help water retention in the soil and reduces the Carbon Footprint. This invention shall give a boost to the rural economy of countries like India.
