Abstract: ABSTRACT TITLE: TANDEM PROPELLER ASSEMBLY INTEGRATED WITH STATOR BLADES FOR MARINE VESSELS. The present invention relates to marine vessels and more particularly vessels consisting of stator blades positioned between the forward and aft tandem propellers, with an appropriate clearance. Two design variations are provided, in which the stator blades' bases extend radially from an inner ring structure surrounding the propeller shaft. The top of the stator blades is joined to a partial-outer ring in one variant, while the tipsof stator blade are maintained free and unconnected to one anotherin the other variant. The stators are connected to the ship hull via a central vertical element at the top. Tandem propeller unit divides the thrust between the two propellers, whereas the stator streamlines the flow into the aft propeller, minimizing the tangential induced velocities in its slipstream. Compared to tandem propellers without stator, ship model self-propulsion experiments reveal that the stator designs can lead to more than 15% power reduction at the design speed and at least 25% increase of thrust in bollard condition. The proposed system increases thrust output under restricted draft and constrained diameters, with applications for vessels operating in inland waters. (Figure 3 & 6)
