MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202617069106 A) filed by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. on June 02, 2026, for Systems And Methods For Sterilizing Mass Flow Meters And Their Use For Precise Pharmaceutical Container Filling.

Inventors include Sharma, Padam Niwas; Miter, Peter; Holler, Joseph R.; and Claus, Joeri.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems for steam sterilizing a mass flow meter (MFM). In an optional aspect, the MFM has a tube inner diameter of 2.5 mm or less, optionally 1.1 mm. Optionally, the methods and systems involve manipulation of certain valves upstream from the MFM to balance the amount of condensate that may form in the tube. This will effectively sterilize the tube without overly condensing and blocking flow of the steam and reducing pressure along the length of the tube in a manner that would risk lowering the temperature in the downstream portion of the conduit to less than 121° C. Also disclosed are methods and apparatus for using the sterilized MFM in a filling operation for pharmaceutical containers.
