MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531015880 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Guwahati on February 24, 2025, for Systems And Methods For Enhancing Driving Alerts Using Haptic Feedback.

Inventors include Krushna Shitap; and Santosh Jagtap.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR ENHANCING DRIVING ALERTS USING HAPTIC FEEDBACK A system for enhancing driving alerts, consisting essentially of a layered seat-integrated haptic alert system, is disclosed. The system includes a vehicular seat with a horizontal cushioning region embedding a multi-layered haptic feedback module. Said module comprises: (a) a rigid polymeric structural base layer (Layer 1); (b) a motor grid layer (Layer 2) containing a symmetric two-cluster array of sixteen vibration actuators each, housed for lateral stability; (c) a vibration transmission layer of energy-coupling foam; (d) a comfort layer of soft cushioning; and (e) a textile cover layer. A control circuit, including a microcontroller, signal processing unit, variable power regulation, and potentiometer-based modulation interface, converts vehicular situational data into spatially distinct, directionally encoded, intensity-controlled haptic signals via selective actuator activation. These haptic signals, transmitted through layered mediation, deliver localized tactile alerts corresponding to vehicular and environmental conditions, providing a grid-based, seat- integrated haptic warning system for enhanced driver awareness.
