MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521056710 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Bombay on June 12, 2025, for Systems And Methods For Detecting Adulteration Of Milk Using Fluorescence Spectroscopy.
Inventors include Atindra Kanti Mandal; Nayan Prakash; Soumyo Mukherji; Barnali Ghatak; and Rajib Bandyopadhyay.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: Embodiments herein disclose a system (100) and method (200) for detecting adulteration in milk using fluorescence spectroscopy. The system (100) comprises an excitation source (102) configured to illuminate a milk sample received in a sample holder (106), a fluorescence detector (104) configured to detect fluorescence emissions from the milk sample, and a signal processing unit (110) configured to generate spectral response data, determine fluorescence characteristics, and identify adulteration. The system (100) may further include a display (108) and a power supply unit (105). The disclosed method (200) requires minimal sample preparation, avoids chemical reagents, and enables rapid, portable, and cost-effective on-site analysis for detecting adulterants, including non-milk fat adulterants, based on variations in fluorescence response.
