Abstract: A ride vehicle system 10 includes a seat 30 configured to support a passenger 12 in a ride vehicle 14. The seat 30 includes a seat pan 18, and the seat pan 18 includes a membrane 82, 102 defining an internal volume 84, 104 and an active fluid 64 disposed within the internal volume 84, 104. Additionally, the ride vehicle system 10 includes a field generator 66 configured to generate an applied field in the active fluid 64 to change a property of the active fluid 64. The seat pan 18 is configured to deform under a weight of the passenger 12 to form a contour conformed to a shape of the passenger 12 in an absence of the applied field.
