Abstract: A system for secure identification of an embedded device is disclosed. A challenge and excitation module causes a hardware resource of the embedded device to perform a defined operating activity, and a signal acquisition module acquires one or more hardware-originated response signals temporally associated with the activity. The response signals are conditioned, aligned and converted into stable device-discriminative features. Features from one or more physical signal domains are fused into a composite hardware fingerprint, while a quality evaluator determines whether the acquisition is sufficiently reliable for identity determination. The fingerprint is quantized and protected using error-tolerant information and a one-way transformation or helper-data arrangement, thereby reducing dependence on retention of raw signal traces or a clonable stored identifier. An identity decision module compares a newly derived fingerprint with protected reference fingerprint information and generates a device identity or trust output when fingerprint similarity and acquisition-quality criteria are jointly satisfied.
