The system includes a riveting station (102), a preheating unit (108) spaced from the riveting station. The preheating unit includes one or more heating elements (110) configured to heat a localized region of the metallic components. Further, the system includes a conveyor (104) having a support member (106) which is displaceable 10 between a loading position (126), a heating position (128) and a riveting position (130). Furthermore, the system includes a plurality of temperature sensors (114) positioned along the conveyor and configured to detect temperature of the metallic components in the heating position and the riveting position. The riveting station (102) is configured to strike a rivet for joining the metallic components in the riveting position based on 15 selective control of the temperature of the metallic components.
