Abstract: A system for real-time road health monitoring and road-condition-aware navigation is disclosed. A vehicle-associated imaging device acquires road-surface images or video, and an edge-side processing arrangement preprocesses image frames and detects road defects including potholes, cracks and damaged pavement. A severity level is determined and each detected defect is associated with geographical coordinates and a timestamp. Lightweight metadata comprising defect category, confidence, severity and location information is synchronised with a remote processing subsystem. Geographically proximate reports corresponding to a common physical defect are consolidated and validated road-defect information is maintained in a road-health database. The stored information is made available for administrative maps, heat maps, maintenance analysis and user alerts. A route recommendation module evaluates road-condition parameters, including defect density and defect severity, together with travel distance and estimated travel time to recommend a route having an improved road-condition profile.
