Abstract: Disclosed is a plant stress detection system, and a method and medium, for detecting plant stress before visible symptoms. A micro climate sensing unit senses ambient temperature and humidity local to a plant, and a plant response sensing unit senses a plant response signal, such as a leaf temperature from a non contact infrared sensor. A processing unit derives a micro climate quantity, such as a vapour pressure deficit, from the temperature and humidity, and computes a stress index from the deviation of the plant response signal from a value expected for the plant given that quantity, an elevated leaf temperature relative to the expected value indicating stress before a symptom appears. The processing unit classifies the stress index into levels by edge computing, issues an alert when a threshold is exceeded, transmits data to a remote server for display, and optionally actuates an irrigation or shading device.
