MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641085190 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on July 11, 2026, for System For Optimizing Carbon-Efficient Route And Method Thereof.

Inventors include Aruthra Vimala K L; Keshika Sathish Kumar; S D Karthikesh; Rajasree T; Indra Priyadarshini S; Padmavathy T V; and Mary Shamala L.

The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a system (100) and a method (200) for optimizing a carbon-efficient route is disclosed. A plurality of data sources (102) acquires data associated with carbon emissions, including traffic, weather, elevation, vehicle parameters, and energy consumption data. A processor (104) coupled with a memory (106) receives and processes the data to extract features. An artificial intelligence (AI)-based emission prediction model (104-1) predicts carbon emissions for each route. The processor (104) assigns a carbon-weighted cost to each route segment and computes a route cost using a graph-based path optimization technique based on the assigned carbon-weighted cost to determine a minimum-cost path. The processor (104) determines and updates the carbon-efficient route in real-time based on variations in traffic, weather, and emission levels.
