Abstract: ABSTRACT System for Low-Cost Coconut Coir Quality Checking Using FPGA and Method Thereof A system and method for low- cost, real-time quality checking of coconut coir is disclosed. An image capturing unit captures an image of a coir sample, which is processed by a processing unit comprising a Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) to assess parameters such as colour, texture, impurities, and fibre length. A moisture sensing unit supplements the image-based assessment by providing data on moisture content. The processing unit compares the captured image with a stored reference image of known quality and generates quality data, based on which the coir sample is classified into one of a plurality of predefined quality grades, such as low, medium, or high. The system is compact, portable, and affordable, enabling its use at the point of sale, and reduces dependence on subjective inspection and costly laboratory equipment.
