MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441083458 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on October 30, 2024, for System For Heating Catalytic Converter Of Vehicle In Cold Conditions And Vehicle Including The Same.
Inventors include Srinivas Devineni; Vishal Chavan; Amit Aher; and Kotresh Amaravathi Math.

Abstract: ABSTRACT A system (100) for heating a catalytic converter (20) of a vehicle, and comprising a chamber (110) adapted to receive an airstream via a chamber inlet port (112), a glow plug (120) housed within the chamber (110) and configured to heat the airstream received in the chamber (110), and an electric compressor (130) disposed downstream of the chamber (110) and comprising a compressor inlet port (132) fluidly coupled to a chamber outlet port (114) to receive the airstream from the chamber (110). The electric compressor (130) is configured to compress the airstream received from the chamber (110) to increase a temperature of the airstream, and supply a compressed airstream to the catalytic converter (20) via a compressor outlet port (134) to attain a light-off temperature of the catalytic converter (20). Preheating of the catalytic converter (20) is performed even before the engine (10) starts, thereby reducing emissions in cold conditions
