MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641074445 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on June 16, 2026, for System For Handwriting-Based Grading.

Inventors include G. Manju; S. Deepa Nivethika; M. Senthil Pandian; Aadivishnu Gajendra; Aatreyee Dev; and Nikhil Sharma.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system (100) for handwriting-based grading, including a pressure sensor (102), a motion sensor (104), and a control unit (202) operatively coupled thereto. The control unit (202) receives pressure parameter, motion parameter and determines at least one stroke sequence based on fusion of pressure and motion parameter. The control unit (202) further identifies a handwritten sequence based on transition-based of the stroke sequence. The control unit (202) maps the handwritten sequence to a predefined set of learned patterns to recognize handwritten inputs. The control unit (202) determines and updates a score value when a confidence level exceeds a predefined threshold, thereby enabling accurate handwriting recognition, improved robustness against variations in writing input, and reliable score generation.
