Abstract: A system for hidden-node-aware, delay-efficient distributed handoff in a vehicular communication network includes a network interface communicating with vehicles in an overlapping handoff region of adjacent next-generation base stations. A controller receives state information comprising vehicle location and link-quality information, determines candidate handoff-agent vehicles in annular communication regions defined by inner safety and outer communication radii, and assigns each vehicle a role as handoff agent or cluster member by evaluating contention-delay, transmission-timing, and resource-block-availability metrics subject to a base-station resource-block constraint. The controller associates each cluster member with a nearest handoff agent based on minimum distance, controls medium access via carrier sensing, backoff timing, contention-window adjustment, and retransmission control, and causes destination-based full-duplex signaling sequences for handoff-related data. Resource blocks are allocated to handoff agents according to cluster member counts while enforcing that allocated resource blocks do not exceed available quantities at the base station.
