Abstract: The invention provides a system for detecting data corruption in a backup system. The system includes a memory storing one or more processable routines and a processor communicatively coupled to the memory. The processor is configured to execute one or more processor-executable routines to access backup data with a plurality of backup datasets stored in a backup storage system. The backup datasets comprise block-level data snapshots of data files for one or more customers stored on a source. The processor is further configured to identify a subset of the backup data across a plurality of backup cycles using a pseudo-random generator. The processor is further configured to compare checksums of one or more data blocks of the files of the identified subset with checksums of corresponding source data blocks to detect data corruption in the backup system. The processor is further configured to generate or update an integrity check log with the detected data corruption information.
