Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a system (100) for detecting and classification of emotional distress and behaviour of children, comprising a multimodal data acquisition module (102) that acquires facial video data and/or speech audio data of a child, and a preprocessing module (104) that preprocesses the acquired data. A feature extraction module (106) extracts a feature indicative of an emotional state and a behavioural pattern from the preprocessed data, an emotional distress classification module (108) classifies an emotional distress level of the child therefrom using a trained classification model, and a behaviour classification module (110) classifies a behavioural category of the child therefrom using a trained classification model. An alert generation module (112) generates an alert, communicated via a caregiver notification module (114), responsive to the emotional distress level or the behavioural category satisfying a threshold condition, the classified data being stored at a historical behaviour repository (116) and analysed for a temporal trend by a trend analysis module (118), thereby enabling early and objective identification of a child requiring attention.
