Abstract: A lightweight temporal attention-based system and method predict the State-of-Health (SOH) and Remaining Useful Life (RUL) of a battery in an electric vehicle. The system comprises a data preprocessing module configured to clean raw battery parameters and segment them into fixed-length temporal feature windows representing consecutive charge-discharge cycles. A Temporal Degradation Attention Network (TDAN) utilizes a low-complexity attention mechanism to project the temporal feature windows into query, key, and value spaces, calculating cycle-level relevance and assigning attentional weights to degradation-critical cycles to generate a compact temporal embedding. A Random Forest regression module comprising an ensemble of decision trees maps the compact temporal embedding to non-linear SOH and RUL predictions. The system achieves high predictive accuracy and interpretability with low computational overhead, enabling real-time deployment on resource- constrained onboard Battery Management Systems. [FIG. 1]
