Abstract: A system for auditing environmental and ethical compliance of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education comprising an application programmable interface (API 103) as a gateway interceptor to intercept outgoing AI requests for capturing metadata, a hardware telemetry engine 104 that interfaces with graphical processing unit (GPU) and central processing unit (CPU) drivers to identify power consumed and memory utilized for fulfilling the AI request in real time, an integrated compliance protocol 105 to correlate energy data from the engine 104 with an ethical scoring model by employing a lookup table of local grid carbon intensities to convert power into carbon footprint, and an administrative governance dashboard 106 for visualizing real-time compliance status for the university or specific departments, and also enables administrators to generate compliance certificates for research papers or institutional sustainability reports, ensuring that the AI usage was self-audited and ethically sound.
