MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411101708 A) filed by Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research on December 20, 2024, for System And Single Step Proces For Conversion Of Carbon Dioxide To Solid Carbon.
Inventors include Siddhartha Kumar Pradhan; Bibhudatta Pradhan; and Satya Ranjan Patra.
The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and process for single step direct conversion of CO2 to solid carbon without any catalyst using of plasma arc heating techniques. More particularly, the process relates to the conversion of CO2 gas to solid carbon by plasma arc heating techniques involves the conversion of CO2 gas into solid carbon in the form of deposition on a metal substrate when CO2 gas passed through an arc plasma via tungsten electrode. The process involves direct single step conversion of CO2 gas to solid carbon without any additional reactant wherein, the tungsten electrode and the grounded metal substrate are not consumed in the process. The invention avoids the complex process flow, metal catalyst pollution and complex energy consumption in the later purification process, realizes a method for synthesizing solid carbon by carbon dioxide in situ in one step without any additional reactant, has high energy conversion rate in the whole process and high purity of solid carbon products.
