MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641097576 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Hyderabad on August 12, 2026, for System And Methods For Non-Invasive Chronic Kidney Disease Staging Using Retinal Fundus Data At Point-Of-Care.
Inventors include Shiv Govind Singh; Partha Pratim Goswami; and Tushar Deshpande.
The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a system (100) and method (300) for non-invasive staging of chronic kidney disease using retinal fundus data. A fundus data acquisition interface (102) receives a colour retinal fundus image or retinal vascular parameters, while a subject data interface (104) receives demographic and retinal disease grading data. A microvascular analysis module (106) extracts retinal vascular parameters when the colour retinal fundus image received. A feature engineering module (108) generates clinically interpretable engineered features. An inference engine (110) selects and applies a stacking-ensemble architecture to classify a subject into Stage 0, Stage 1, or Stage 2. An output interface (112) presents the chronic kidney disease stage prediction, and an explainability module (230) provides instance-level feature attribution. The present invention further discloses a mobile point-of-care system (500) having a smartphone (202) and a removable fundus imaging attachment (502) for screening without blood-based biomarker inputs.
