MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511013556 A) filed by Schneider Electric India Private Limited on February 17, 2025, for System And Method To Detect Operating Direction Of A Pump Without Physical Sensors.

Inventors include Karekar, Parag; Koshe, Kaustubh; and Deshpande, Ajinkya.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method (200) for detecting the operating direction of a pump. The method includes activating (202) the motor to monitor parameters, such as phase current and root mean square (RMS) current. During the start-up phase, the phase current is measured (204) to detect variations and identify the highest initial peak value. The method records (206) consecutive peak values and compares (208) them with reference patterns corresponding to a forward direction. The controller determines (210) the direction by checking the direction flag. The RMS current is measured (212) during steady-state operation and compared (214) with the motor’s rated current. If the pump operates in reverse, corrective actions (218) are taken, including stopping the pump and triggering an alarm.
