Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD TO AUTOMATICALLY SORT RECYCLABLE ITEMS USING A FOUR-WAY TILTING FLAP MECHANISM The present invention relates to a system (102) and method for automated sorting of recyclable items using a four-way tilting flap mechanism. The system (102) includes a processor (202), a material detection subsystem (210), a recyclable-material classification engine (408), an actuator-control and stabilization unit (212), and a central tilting flap platform (606). The material detection subsystem (210) acquires recyclable-item information including image data, spectral characteristics, conductivity properties, magnetic response, weight distribution, and object geometry associated with recyclable items. The recyclable-material classification engine (408) applies artificial-intelligence (AI) and machine-learning (ML) models to classify recyclable items into recyclable-material categories. Based on the classification outcome, the actuator-control and stabilization unit (212) selectively controls one or more independently controllable actuators (604) to directionally incline the central tilting flap platform (606) toward a designated collection-bin direction for gravity-assisted transfer of recyclable items while reducing jamming, cross-contamination, and misrouting conditions.
