Abstract: A system 200 and method 300 of checking fuel gas cylinders for wear and tear damage is disclosed. A set of cylinders are positioned for checking whether they have any wear and tear damage. A linear conveyor arrangement is used to position the fuel gas cylinders. A thermal camera imaging system 240 are used to capture images of the set of fuel gas cylinders. Ultrasonic probes 250 are used to transmit ultrasonic waveforms and receive a response waveform. An analysis of the captured images and the ultrasonic waveforms are performed. One or more dents, cracks, holes and rust on the fuel gas cylinders are identified and a safety score is calculated for the set of the fuel gas cylinders. A safety score is calculated and compared with a safety threshold. If the safety score is lesser than that of the safety threshold, the set of cylinders having the lesser score are identified and removed from use.
