Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD OF A MULTI-LAYER INSULATION FOR AN EXHAUST AFTER-TREATMENT SYSTEM The present invention relates to a multi-layer insulation (100) for an exhaust after-treatment system (EATS) (200) of an internal combustion engine (300). The exhaust after-treatment system (200) comprises a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) (102) configured to receive exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine (300) and a diesel particulate filter (DPF) (104) fluidly connected to the diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) (102). The multi-layer insulation (100) comprises an insulating layer (106) surrounding at least the DOC (102) and the DPF (104). The insulating layer (106) includes a first insulation layer (106A) and a second insulation layer (106B) formed from insulation materials having predetermined thermal conductivity characteristics and predetermined thicknesses. The layered arrangement provides enhanced thermal resistance, reduces conductive heat transfer, improves exhaust heat retention, lowers the outer surface temperature of the exhaust after-treatment system (EATS) (200), and enhances thermal efficiency and emission control performance.
