Abstract: The present invention relates to a system (100) and method (300) for voltage and current sensing in a grid-tied solar photovoltaic (PV) inverter. The system (100) comprises voltage sensing circuits for sensing DC and AC voltages, current sensing circuits for sensing DC and AC currents, and output-side safety circuits interfaced with a microcontroller unit (MCU). Differential amplifier stages scale sensed signals to MCU-compatible levels, while fixed DC bias networks enable unipolar representation of AC signals. Hall-effect current sensors generate current-proportional outputs and over-current fault indications upon exceeding predefined thresholds. The method (300) comprises sensing inverter voltages and currents, scaling the sensed signals, detecting over-current conditions, and clamping the signals within predefined voltage limits before supplying them to the MCU. The output-side safety circuits protect MCU input pins from over-voltage, over-current, and fault conditions. The present invention is applicable to grid-tied solar PV inverters and other power electronic converters.
