MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411089248 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on November 18, 2024, for System And Method For Virtual Lane Generation Using Trainable Kalman Filters.

Inventors include Hitul Desai; Sobana Sundararajan; Prasanna Chowdappa; and Laxmi Kant Sahoo.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system (106) and method (300) for generating virtual lanes. The system (106) determines a total number of virtual lanes based on a current frame and a predetermined number of preceding frames, where each virtual lane is identified using a corresponding lane index. A lane index is assigned to one or more vehicles (108) in the current frame, and an anchor vehicle is identified for each lane index. The system (106), for each pair of the vehicles (108) in each lane index, determines a clothoid curve using a Kalman filter, where the Kalman filter determines a process noise, a measurement noise, and a Kalman gain value using a corresponding neural network. The system (106) merges the clothoid curves to obtain a corresponding unified clothoid curve for each lane index.
