Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR VEHICLE-INTEGRATED DEPLOYABLE PHOTOVOLTAIC PROTECTION AND ENERGY HARVESTING The present invention relates to a deployable photovoltaic protection system for an electric vehicle that is incorporated into the vehicle. The system includes a deployable canopy assembly that is incorporated within a vehicle body portion, a deploy mechanism, one or more sensors, a power management unit, and a controller. The canopy assembly incorporates photovoltaic elements capable of generating electrical energy and protecting at least a portion of the vehicle against the effects of sunlight, heat, rain, and other elements. The sensors detect the vehicle operating condition, environmental conditions, obstruction in the surroundings, position of the canopy, and structural loads. Taking into consideration the sensor information and the vehicle status information, the controller selectively operates the deployment and retraction of the canopy assembly. The power management unit manages and supplies the electrical energy generated to a traction battery, auxiliary battery, or vehicle electrical subsystem. The controller also ensures the non-deployment or retraction of the canopy assembly in case of any unsafe condition or movement of the vehicle.
