The computing device (102) is configured to receive underwater image data representing one or more marine organisms present within an underwater environment. The processor (104) is configured to execute plurality of modules (108) for underwater marine organism detection with hierarchical taxonomic processing. The proposed system (100) supports marine biodiversity monitoring, environmental assessment, fisheries management, and related marine observation applications. The proposed improved underwater image analysis system (100) addresses one or more limitations associated with conventional underwater species detection systems.
