MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641078785 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 25, 2026, for System And Method For Underwater Marine Organism Detection With Hierarchical Taxonomic Processing.

Inventors include Aju D; and Shaurya Maloo.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure proposes a system (100) for underwater marine organism detection using image-based processing, hierarchical taxonomic analysis, and identification of previously unseen marine organisms from underwater imagery. The system (100) comprises a computing device (102) having a processor (104) and a memory (106) storing one or more instructions executable by the processor (104). The computing device (102) is configured to receive underwater image data representing one or more marine organisms present within an underwater environment. The processor (104) is configured to execute plurality of modules (108) for underwater marine organism detection with hierarchical taxonomic processing. The proposed system (100) supports marine biodiversity monitoring, environmental assessment, fisheries management, and related marine observation applications. The proposed improved underwater image analysis system (100) addresses one or more limitations associated with conventional underwater species detection systems.
