MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641075009 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 17, 2026, for System And Method For Uncertainty-Aware Query Plan Control In Database Management.
Inventors include Dr M Rajasekhara Babu; Mr. Shlok Kumar Goenka; and Mr. Raghav Tibrewal.
The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.
Abstract: Embodiments herein provide a guardrailed query optimization system (100) for pre-execution uncertainty-driven query plan control in a database management system. The guardrailed query optimization system (100) includes a processor (102) and a memory (104) storing instructions that, when executed by the processor (102), cause the system to receive a query associated with a database workload, obtain a cardinality estimate associated with one or more candidate query execution plans, generate an uncertainty representation associated with the cardinality estimate, determine, based on the uncertainty representation, a plan-selection condition for the query execution plan prior to execution of the query, and control selection of the query execution plan by selectively permitting, constraining, or preventing execution-plan generation based on the determined plan-selection condition.
