Abstract: 062] The present invention provides a system and method for stabilized high-efficiency perovskite tandem solar energy conversion. A tandem photovoltaic device comprises a first photovoltaic sub-cell having a perovskite photoactive absorber and a second photovoltaic sub-cell having a relatively lower-bandgap photoactive absorber. A stabilization region associated with an interface of the perovskite absorber reduces interfacial defects and inhibits migration of mobile ionic species. A sensing arrangement obtains operating parameters of the tandem photovoltaic device and a controller derives a stability indicator therefrom. A controllable power- conversion interface adjusts an electrical operating point according to generated power and the derived stability indicator. The controller may apply diagnostic electrical perturbations, identify degradation-related transient responses, establish a permissible operating envelope, and initiate a recovery operating state when a degradation criterion is satisfied. Environmental barrier and thermal-management arrangements may further mitigate environmental and thermal degradation, thereby improving operational stability and lifetime energy yield of the tandem photovoltaic device.
