Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SOURCE-TRACKED DIRECTIONAL ACOUSTIC ATTENUATION IN NOISE-RESTRICTED ZONES The present disclosure relates to a system and method for source-tracked directional acoustic attenuation in a noise-restricted zone. Spatially separated acoustic sensors detect a vehicular horn event, localize the horn source, and track source movement. A controller selects one or more protected acoustic control locations and determines source- to-control and emitter-to-control acoustic transfer characteristics. A compensated counter-signal having frequency-dependent amplitude, phase, and delay correction is generated and emitted through a steerable directional acoustic emitter toward the selected control location. Error microphones measure residual horn-related acoustic energy within the protected region, and the controller adaptively modifies the counter-signal, emitter steering, or emitter selection when an attenuation criterion is not satisfied. Emergency-sound classification can inhibit suppression of safety-critical acoustic warnings. Multiple emitters may perform source-responsive handover, and a parametric array may generate a concentrated audible counter-field through an ultrasonically carried modulation signal.
