Abstract: The present disclosure reveals a solar photovoltaic (PV)-powered bidirectional electric vehicle charging system that integrates with a three-phase grid, designed for both seamless grid-connected and islanded operations, while ensuring efficient energy management, enhanced power quality, and strong system stability. This system includes a PV array linked to a DC-DC boost converter under maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control to optimize solar energy capture, a bidirectional DC-DC converter to support vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and grid-to-vehicle (G2V) functions, and a voltage source converter (VSC) for connecting with the grid and local loads through a DC-link capacitor. An advanced zero attracting variable step size distributed normalized least mean square (IZA-VSS-DNLMS) adaptive control strategy is used to reduce harmonics and maintain sinusoidal grid currents with minimal total harmonic distortion, while ensuring DC-link voltage stability under dynamic conditions. The claimed system architecture has been thoroughly validated through simulations and experimental prototype testing, demonstrating effective power quality enhancement, smooth mode transitions, bidirectional power flow, and stable operation under varying solar, grid, and load conditions, thus providing a reliable and efficient PV-powered EV charging infrastructure.
