Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of advanced inorganic nanomaterial and, more particularly, to plasma-engineered layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanomaterial. Specifically, the invention relates to a copper-iron layered double hydroxide (Cu-Fe LDH) nanomaterial having controlled Cu molar ratio of 3:1, 4:1, and 5:1 , prepared by a hydrothermal synthesis process and subsequently subjected 490 to plasma-assisted surface engineering to tailor its crystallographic, structural, morphological and optical characteristics while substantially preserving the LDH framework. The invention further relates to a clean and scalable post-synthesis modification methodology that eliminates the need for aggressive chemical surface treatments, 495 thereby providing an environmentally sustainable route for engineering multifunctional LDH nanomaterial. The plasma-engineered Cu-Fe LDH obtained according to the present invention constitutes a versatile materials platform suitable for further functionalization and application in catalysis, advanced oxidation technologies, environmental remediation, sensing, optoelectronic devices, energy- 500 related systems, protective coatings and biomedical material development. Accordingly, the invention falls within the interdisciplinary fields of nanotechnology, inorganic chemistry, material science, plasma engineering, surface modification technology and advanced functional materials.
