MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641114772 A) filed by Dayananda Sagar College Of Engineering on September 25, 2026, for System And Method For Separation And Detection Of Sugar In Raw Milk For Dairy Applications.
Inventors include Dr. Deepa H. A.; Dr. Pavithra G; Jayesh R; Nishanth Kiran Mutt; and Pavan Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a low-cost, hardware-based system and method for detecting sugar and other ionic adulterants in raw milk through changes in the electrical conductivity of the milk sample. The detection unit comprises a pair of conductivity probes immersed in the milk sample, connected to a transistor-based amplification circuit that converts small variations in the ionic conductivity of milk into a visually perceptible change in the brightness of a light-emitting diode (LED). Presence of sugar or other ionic adulterants alters the conductivity of the milk sample, which is sensed by the probes, amplified by an NPN transistor, and displayed as a proportional variation in LED brightness, thereby providing real-time, micro-controller-free, chemical-reagent-free visual indication of milk purity. The invention further provides an associated separation unit employing a semipermeable ultra-filtration membrane that selectively permits smaller sugar molecules present in milk to pass through while retaining larger milk proteins, fats and minerals, thereby yielding a lactose-reduced, high-protein milk product, the purity/adulteration of which can in turn be verified using the said detection circuit. The invention provides a portable, battery-operated, reusable and economical solution suitable for on-farm testing, household use, rural cooperatives, dairy processing units and educational demonstration, without requiring chemical reagents, a micro controller or programming.
