Inventors include Aseem Chandra Trivedi; Vanessa Lacayo Trivedi; and Mahadevan S.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system for selectively extracting cobalt from a metal bearing solution. The system includes a pre-processor configured to remove metals other than cobalt from the metal bearing solution to obtain a cobalt-rich raffinate, and a pre-saponification module configured to wash a solvent with an alkali solution to remove residual alkalis from the solvent. The system includes an extraction tank comprising a heavy phase inlet, a light phase inlet, a pH monitor positioned adjacent to the heavy phase inlet, an alkaline dosing inlet configured to control a pH of the cobalt-rich raffinate by adjusting an alkaline dosing velocity based on threshold values, a heavy phase outlet, and a light phase outlet. The cobalt-rich raffinate and the washed solvent flow in opposite directions in a counter-current flow configuration. The system includes a scrubbing system and a stripping system.
